Marine Corps Detachment Fort Belvoir

IGIS is the combination and replacement of two courses formerly attended by 0261 Marines: Advanced Geodetic Survey and the Advanced Terrain Analysis Course. IGIS will be developed and delivered two times per year resulting in a reduced total instruction time from approximately 152 training days (AGS and ATAC training time combined) to 130 training days (annually). Annual student throughput is anticipated to be approximately 20 Marines.

Geographic Intelligence Specialists collect analyze and process geophysical data and geographic information to produce Geographic Intelligence (GEOINT). Geographic Intelligence products are derived from manipulating geospatial information by collecting, querying, validating, and analyzing geospatial information in a database. Intelligence products are further intensified by the collection, analysis, and processing of geophysical data. Equipment utilized includes survey and mapping instrumentation such as theodolites, electronic and satellite positioning equipment, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) used for analysis of Geographic Information and Remotely Sensed Imagery (RSI) to produce GEOINT. 

Imagery Analysis Specialists are accessed by lateral move from any MOS. They process and analyze imagery gathered by various sensor platforms to derive intelligence. They use photogrammetric skills to assist the commander in accurate target acquisition and perform reconnaissance mission planning for multi-mission, multi-source imagery reconnaissance. Intelligence derived by the imagery analyst is used in updating military intelligence databases at national, theater, and organic level. Imagery analysis products include Battle Damage Assessment (BD), Order of Battle (OOB), Lines of Communication (LOC) surveys, Helicopter Landing Zone (HLZ), coastal landing beaches, Expeditionary Airfields, Non-Combatant Evacuation Operation (NEO) studies and target identification.
