On 28 November 2006, Marine Corps Intelligence Schools (MCIS) was activated as a Marine Corps Training Command (TRNGCMD) formal schools command. Colonel Francis X. Cubillo became the first Commanding Officer during a command activation ceremony reviewed by TRNGCMD’s Commanding General, Brigadier General James B. Laster. Colonel Mitchel S. On 1 December 2012, TRNGCMD reorganized utilizing a geographic construct in order to enhance Command oversight and presence. MCIS now serves as the parent command for MARDET Dam Neck, VA (GMI, CI-HUMINT, GEOINT), MARDET MATSD Oceana, VA (F18 Pilot/Aviation Maint), MARDET Newport, RI/SERE-E Kittery, ME (Legal/Aviation/Log/Survival), MARDET School of Music JEBLC, VA (Ft Story SOM), and MARCORREP FTC Norfolk, VA (Aviation Micro Repair).
Although MCIS provides primary support to regional subordinate training units, it continues to execute the functional mission of serving as the focal point for all Marine Corps Intelligence training and education issues regarding MAGTF Intelligence, Signals Intelligence, and Remote Sensor Operator military occupation fields while also serving as the Marine Corps representative for all DOD and joint-level intelligence/signals intelligence training and education boards and councils.
