MGySgt James V. Hockenberry
Master Gunnery Sergeant Hockenberry was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky and enlisted in the Marine Corps on May 30th 1989 and attended boot camp at MCRD Parris Island. He then graduated from the Navy-Marine Corps Intelligence Training Center, Dam Neck, VA as a 0231. As a Lance Corporal he served in Okinawa with 3rd FSSG G-2 and deployed as the Intelligence Chief with CSSD-35, Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines from July 1990 to January 1991. His next assignment was to 3rd RPV Company in Twenty-nine Palms, CA from August 1991 to July 1994 where he served as the Intelligence Chief. From August 1994 to March 1997 Sergeant Hockenberry served as an intelligence specialist with Marine Aircraft Group-39 at Camp Pendleton, CA. In 1996, he volunteered for Recruiting Duty and was assigned as a Marine Recruiter from June 1997 to June 2000 at RS Raleigh, N.C. and meritoriously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.
Upon completion of recruiting duty in June 2000, then Gunnery Sergeant Hockenberry was assigned to 1st Intelligence Battalion at Camp Pendleton, CA. and served as the All-Source Fusion Platoon Chief and I MEF Collections Operations Chief. He deployed with the Battalion and I MEF FWD for Operation Iraqi Freedom I from October 2002 to June 2003. In January 2004, GySgt Hockenberry was transferred to First Marine Aircraft Wing G-2, Okinawa, Japan as the Air Combat Intelligence Chief. In October 2005, Master Sergeant Hockenberry was transferred to 3rd Intelligence Battalion and served as the All-Source Fusion Platoon Chief, Productions and Analysis Company Chief, and Battalion Operations Chief. During May 2007, he was transferred to III MEF G-2 for assignment as the III MEF G-2 Operations Chief. In July 2008 he was promoted to his current rank and transferred to the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing as the G-2 Intelligence Chief.
In January 2011, he transferred to the Marine Detachment, Dam Neck, VA. to serve as the Senior Enlisted Advisor. During July 2013, MGySgt Hockenberry transferred to I MEF G-2 to serve as the Intelligence Chief. In Jan 2014, he deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan to serve as the C-2 Chief for RC-SW in Operation Enduring Freedom. In July 2016, MGySgt Hockenberry was transferred to Marine Corps Intelligence Schools, Dam Neck, VA. to serve in his present assignment as the Senior Enlisted Advisor.
His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, and Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two Gold Stars.
He is married to the former Ms. Brenda Findley and has one son, Hunter.
