Mission

Marine Aviation Training Support Detachment Oceana advocates for Headquarters Marine Corps regarding the policies, requirements, standards, and proficiency levels for training Marines in aviation specialties in order to provide the Fleet Marine Force with the most capable aviation professionals; to provide continual leadership, mentorship, and administrative support to all Marines assigned to NAS Oceana; and to perform all tasks and functions as directed by the Commanding General, Training Command.

MATSD Oceana does not have a DNCO or SDO. Therefore, all inbound Marines are directed to contact the MATSD Oceana S-1 at (757) 433-3822 or DSN 433-3822 during normal working hours upon arrival to NAS Oceana. If after normal working hours, during a weekend or holiday, contact the MATSD Oceana Duty Cell phone at (757) 651-5085 and notify the Marine who answers the phone of your rank, name, and SSN. The Marine will answer any questions you may have that cannot be answered by clicking on one of the appropriate links below. Additional check-in information is contained within the below links.

All permanent personnel in the grades of E1-E6, W1-W3, and O1-O3, are to be assigned a sponsor per MCO P1300.8 and Group Policy Letter 1-04. If you have not yet been contacted by your sponsor or have not yet received a command welcome aboard letter, Notify the Sponsorship Coordinator. If you are not in the pay grades listed above and desire to have a sponsor assigned to you, please fill out these forms and fax them to the sponsorship coordinator to DSN: 433-3812/Commercial (757) 433-3812.

Arriving by Car:

Naval Air Station Oceana lies 16 miles East of the City of Norfolk but within the city limits of Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Air station is tucked away among the tall trees, swamps and farmland just west of the waterfront. Naval Air Station Oceana consist of 6,000 acres with approximately 10,000 military, 11,000 family members and 1,700 civilian employees. Your first approach to the Air Station is from Interstate 64 East or West. From 64, take 264 East to First Colonial Road. Proceed on First Colonial past Virginia Beach Blvd. First Colonial becomes Oceana Blvd. Follow Oceana Blvd for the next 4 miles passing the Oceana Stables. The next right will be Tomcat Blvd., which leads to the main gate.

Arriving by Plane:

If you are reporting to Naval Air Station Oceana, you must purchase an airline ticket destined for Norfolk International Airport. The airport is located about 20 miles west of Naval Air Station Oceana. There is a Navy Representative on duty at the Airport Military Information Booth, located in the main lobby of the airport. Information is available to military personnel reporting to the area from 8 a.m. to midnight both weekdays and weekends. The military Information Booth can be reached by calling (757) 444-3040.

If you do not have a sponsor there to meet you, the airport limousine service will take you to Naval Air Station Oceana Quarter Deck for about $30.
