1316 Overview

The Basic Metal Workers Course is designed to provide instruction on the 1000 level events listed in the Training and Readiness Manual, NAVMC 3500.12. The initial phase of this course is trained alongside the Army, as a consolidated Inter-service Training Review Organization (ITRO) phase.

PURPOSE: To provide all entry level Marines in the Military Occupational Specialty 1316 - Welders with the basic techniques and knowledge needed to effectively perform required tasks as set out by NAVMC 3500.12.

SCOPE: This course is designed to train entry level students the basic welding fundamentals in Setup Procedures, Oxy/Acetylene Welding and Cutting, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), and Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW). The student will also perform LAV Armor Plate repair and have preliminary training and classes on Titanium, Safety inspections, SL-3 inventory, MCTWS (Marine Corps Tactical Weld Shop)/Trailer, and NAVMC Records and Forms. This school produces a skill set for the student that is an engineering/fabrication/craftsmen skill versus a traditional trade skill.

CDD NOTES: This CDD represents an 8.5 hour training day for Annexes E, F, X and Z . Annex Z is for administrative events.

This course is consolidated with an Inter-service Training Review Organization (ITRO) agreement with the U.S. Army.

This CDD/POI reflects the training events, and curriculum unique to the U.S. Marine Corps.

1316-ADMN-1001: Conduct safety inspection

1316-MANT-1001: Perform operations check on welding/cutting equipment

1316-MANT-1002: Perform identification tests on metal

1316-XENG-1002: Weld metal using Gas Tungsten Arc

1316-XENG-1002: Weld metal using Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) equipment

1316-XENG-1003: Weld metal using oxyacetylene equipment

1316-XENG-1004: Weld metal using Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) equipment

1316-XENG-1005: Weld metal using Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) equipment

1316-XENG-1006: Perform metal cutting

USMC Physical Training Hours conducted during ITRO phase is 21 hours.

USMC Mentoring hours conducted during ITRO phase is 5 hours.

PHYSICAL TRAINING (32 hours)

The students are required to participate in the Physical Fitness Program while assigned to Bravo Company, Marine Detachment, Fort Lee Virginia in compliance with MCO 6100.13

The fitness program addresses upper & lower body conditioning, and cardio-vascular endurance necessary for physical fitness, also sustainment training of the martial arts program is incorporated. All students are required to successfully pass one PFT or CFT while in student status. Physical training is scheduled students are required to successfully pass one PFT or CFT while in student status. Physical training is scheduled into the training schedule.
