Master Gunnery Sergeant Lowman Senior Enlisted Advisor MARDET-Monterey

Master Gunnery Sergeant Lowman was raised in the Gastonia/Charlotte area of North Carolina. After receiving his undergraduate degree in Political Science and Economics from Western Carolina University in May 1990, he joined the United States Marine Corps on 21 January 1991.

After graduating from Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island and Marine Combat Training, he attended the Defense Language Institute (DLI) in Monterey, California for his Primary Military Occupational Specialty of 2671 - Arabic Linguist.  Upon graduating from DLI and follow-on training at Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas in 1993, he received orders to his first duty station at 1st Radio Battalion (now 3rd Radio Battalion), Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.

While serving at 1st Radio Battalion from 1994 to 1997, he served on back-to-back 13th Marine Expeditionary Units (MEU) and a special detachment formed to test new collection equipment at Camp Lejeune, NC. On the first 13th MEU aboard the USS TARAWA, then Lance Corporal Lowman served on a Collection Team in support of Operation UNITED SHIELD in Somalia and in support of Exercise Cobra Gold in Thailand. On the second 13th MEU aboard the USS ESSEX, then Corporal Lowman served on a Mobile Electronic Warfare Support System (MEWSS) Team in support of Exercise Infinite Moonlight in Jordan and Operation DESERT STRIKE against Iraq.

 After reenlisting in 1997, then Sergeant Lowman received orders to attend Analysis and Reporting Course (A&R) in Goodfellow AFB, TX enroute to his next duty station at Company D, MCSB, Fort Gordon, Georgia. Upon graduating A&R and receiving a secondary MOS of 2629, he began his tour at Company D as a Signals Intelligence Analyst for the Middle Eastern Division within the National Security Agency. In April 1999, Staff Sergeant Lowman was selected by HQMC for the Joint Military Intelligence College (JMIC) Masters Degree Program.

 Following the completion of the JMIC Masters Program in July 2000, Staff Sergeant Lowman was assigned to Company B, MCSB, Fort Meade, Maryland as an Intelligence Analyst for the North African Division within the National Security Agency. During this tour Staff Sergeant Lowman was assigned to provide direct Signals Intelligence support to Defense Intelligence Agency within 24 hours following the attacks on 11 September 2000.  He also volunteered for a deployment to Sarajevo, Bosnia in support of NATO Forces and served as an Intelligence Analyst within the Iraqi Shop in preparation for and during the invasion of Iraq in 2003.  

 In June 2003, Gunnery Sergeant Lowman received orders to 2nd Radio Battalion, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. During this tour, he completed two deployments to Iraq. In the first deployment from 2004 to 2005, he was assigned as the Company Gunnery Sergeant and Senior Analyst for OCE-1 in Camp Fallujah and supported combatant commanders during the Second Battle of Fallujah in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM 4-6.  In the second deployment to Iraq from 2006 to 2007, Gunnery Sergeant Lowman was assigned as the Operation Chief for OCE-2 on Camp Ramadi and supported combatant commanders during numerous operations in and around Ramadi in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM 5-7.

 Promoted to Master Sergeant, he was assigned to Company L, MCSB, Fort Meade, Maryland in June 2007 as the Senior Enlisted Marine. During this timeframe, he assisted with the growth of Marine Corps Cyber forces and structure. He also supervised and mentored Marines in the Marine Corps Digital Network Operations Program (MCDNOP), a National Security Agency Internship Program. Additionally, he coordinated, supervised and participated in numerous fundraising activities that helped in raising over $100,000 in a three year period for three Marine Corps Balls. In December 2009, Master Sergeant Lowman assumed the duties as the Senior Enlisted Marine for Company B, MCSB, Fort Meade, Maryland in order to backfill a vacated senior enlisted billet.

 In June 2010, Master Sergeant Lowman received orders to III Marine Expeditionary Forces, G-2 Section, in Okinawa, Japan as the Signals Intelligence Chief. During this tour, he participated in Exercise Cobra Gold in Thailand twice, Exercise Ulchi-Freedom Guardian in South Korea twice, and PHIBLEX in the Philippines. Also, he served as the Marine Expeditionary Brigade G-2 Chief during Operation TOMODACHI in support of Humanitarian Relief efforts in Japan and during Operation MEGI HADR in support of humanitarian relief efforts in the Philippines. Furthermore, he served as the III MEF G-2 Operations Chief.

 In June 2012, he was promoted to Master Gunnery Sergeant and received orders to 1st Radio Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California. During this tour he served as the Operations Chief, OCAC Chief and deployed to Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan for 7 months in support of combat operations during Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 13-2 and 14-1.

 In August 2014, Master Gunnery Sergeant Lowman received orders to Marine Detachment (MARDET) Corry Station as the Senior Enlisted Marine. On 1 May 2015, he assumed Command of MARDET Corry Station and coordinated/supervised the Consolidation Efforts of billet structure and equipment from Corry Station to Goodfellow AFB, TX.

 Master Gunnery Sergeant Lowman’s personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2nd award), Joint Service Achievement Medal, and the Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2nd award).
